Your Robot Vacuum Can't Fit Under the Sofa. Now What?

Robot vacuums are supposed to make cleaning easier. Then they meet that sofa.

It cruises around the dining table, disappears under the bed and handles the hallway without complaint. Then it reaches the lounge, bumps into the base and turns around. Meanwhile, an entire ecosystem of dust, crumbs and missing LEGO pieces continues thriving underneath.

Before accepting that the sofa will forever be robot vacuum territory denied, there may be a surprisingly simple fix.

Look at the Sofa Legs

If the sofa itself is suitable, replacing short sofa legs with taller replacement sofa legs can create extra clearance underneath.

A 150mm sofa leg, for example, may provide enough additional height for a robot vacuum to get underneath and actually finish the job.

There are a few things to check first:

• Measure the height of the robot vacuum, including any raised sensors.
• Measure the current clearance underneath the sofa.
• Check how the existing furniture legs are attached.
• Make sure taller sofa legs won't affect the stability or support of the furniture.
• Consider the new seat height too. Even a small lift can change how the sofa feels to sit on.

Make the Extra Height Look Intentional
