Why Proper Heavy Duty Castors Matter

You know when you finally finish setting something up in the shed and it feels spot on… until you realise it’s now completely stuck there?
Workbench, tool chest, even that oversized storage unit you swore would be “easy to move.” Once it’s loaded up, it’s not going anywhere without a full-body effort.
This is usually where someone says, “Just chuck some wheels on it.”
And yeah, that’s true. But not all wheels are the same, and this point is where people get it wrong.
A proper heavy-duty castor, especially a 4-inch one, isn’t just about making things roll. It’s about making them roll properly. Overdust, small bits on the floor, uneven patches. No jamming, no awkward dragging, and no feeling like it’s about to give out under the weight.
But the part most people don’t think about, until it’s too late, is the brake.
Because the second you start actually using that bench, sanding, drilling, leaning into something, you don’t want even a hint of movement. That slight shift is all it takes to throw you off, or mess up what you’re working on.
A solid brake changes everything. Lock it in, and the whole setup feels planted. No rolling, no creeping, no second-guessing.
It’s one of those details you only appreciate after you’ve tried the cheaper option first. The ones that wobble, stick, or give up the moment you actually put weight on them.
At Urban Hardware, this is the kind of upgrade that just makes sense. Fit them once, forget about them, and get on with the job.
If you’re already thinking about adding wheels, do it properly the first time.
You’ll feel the difference straight away.
