When Furniture Is Almost Right (And Why We Can't Ignore It)
We've all had to deal with it. The table is just a touch too low. The cabinet that works but is always awkward to use. The furniture that isn't horrible enough to be thrown away, yet never seems exactly right. And to be honest, the feeling of being somewhere between is the worst.
When the furniture is almost correct, we change ourselves instead. We lean forward, slouch over, and stack coasters to make things level. We tell ourselves it's okay, even if we see it every day. Does this sound familiar?
Most of the time, furniture difficulties are caused by size and height. A few centimetres can make a table feel more comfortable or a cabinet more useful. That's why even little changes, like replacing the legs or hardware, can make a tremendous difference.

We found that changing the legs on furniture is one of the easiest ways to fix things. Longer legs can raise a table to a height that is more comfortable. Adjustable feet can fix bothersome wobbles on floors that aren't level. New legs might even make a piece of furniture feel heavier or lighter in the room. And the best part? It costs a lot less than getting a new one.
The same is true for handles. The hardware is frequently what makes a cabinet feel old or bulky. Changing the handles to gold or matte black gives the look a quick update and makes it feel better to use. It's a small adjustment, but it makes you happy instead of angry.
Every day at Urban Hardware, we see individuals choose updates over new items. We can regulate how our environments work by adding furniture legs, handles, castors, and other accessories. No more settling for "almost," no more compromises.
If anything in your home continues to bother you, you might want to pay careful attention to it. It could be that it just needs a tiny, affordable fix. And when you finally fix it, you'll wonder how you put up with the problem for so long.
